This customer had previously used one of our '46 Chevy pickup 'street rod' chassis for another build, but wanted a cool rig to haul his dirt bike to the woods. He found a long-bed '46 Chevy pickup and wanted a strong, custom 4x4 frame for some mild off-rad driving. We used his original frame for patterns and built him the chassis he needed for his custom truck. This included a modern LS-Chevy V8 hooked to a 700R4 tranmission and transfer case from a '91 Chevy Suburban. It was important to use a passenger-side transfer case output due to the narrow width of the frame. Other parts used include an Astro van steering box, Jeep Wagoneer front axle, Jeep Cherokee rear leaf springs, and QA1 front coil overs. Now that we have all the patterns, specifications, and fixture, we can build a 2wd hot rod chassis from the same rails.
